“Everything In Its Right Place” is a series of 78 photographs of carob trees taken on the Balearic Islands, Spain. The work is available as a catalogue (PDF) out of which one (or more) pictures have to be selected. The selection process is conceptual part of the work: the framed pictures are presented as an individual selection and not as a complete series.

78 Fotografien (55 x 77,5 cm) von Johannisbrotbäumen. Die Bilder entstanden auf einer auf den ersten Blick “ökonomisch-unwirtschaftlichen” Plantage in Spanien. Die 78 Fotografien verhandeln das in Goldbachs Arbeiten etablierte Topos der Wiederholung und Differenz neu unter dem Gesichtspunkt der Biodiviersität. Im Zeitalter der industriellen Massenproduktion von Nahrungsmitteln wird hier anachronistisch die individuelle Pflanze in den Fokus gerückt: in formaler Anlehnung an klassische Vorbilder der Fotografiegeschichte erfahren die Bäume durch konzentrierten Blick und formale Strenge eine Wandlung von anonymer Nutzpflanze zum individuellen Charakter-Portrait. Diese Fokussierung wird auch in der Präsentation der Arbeit fortgeführt: der Selektionsprozess ist konzeptueller Teil der Arbeit. Angepasst an die jeweilige Ausstellungssituation sollen die mit Nummern betitelten Bilder bewusst als Auswahl und nicht als vollständige Serie gezeigt werden.

78 photographs (55 x 77.5 cm) of carob trees. The photographs were taken in what at first glance appears to be an ‘economically non-profitable’ plantation in Spain. The 78 photographs renegotiate the topos of repetition and difference established in Niklas Goldbach’s work from the point of view of biodiversity. In the age of industrial mass production of food, the individual plant is brought into focus in an anachronistic way: in a formal reference to classical models from the history of photography, the trees are transformed from anonymous crops into individual character portraits through a concentrated gaze and formal rigour. This focus is continued in the presentation of the work: the selection process is a conceptual part of the work. Adapted to the exhibition situation, the numbered photographs are deliberately shown as a selection and not as a complete series.
